Doug,

This is one of the main points. There is no loyalty. Coke knows this. If they stop advertising to convince people their cola is better, every one would be buying pepsie. Amazon will always have huge advertising costs to compete with the other book sellers. Amazon cannot even convince the public their books is better that that of their competitors.

We could take your argument further and look and Budweiser, Miller and Coors. Why are they spending millions on advertising? It is not that no one has heard of them.

I have been in retail for 20 years. You convince the public you have a better product at a better price and you do well. You stop advertising this concept and you drown.
