No he specifically said targeted for G3. Very interesting, considering it's 5 qtrs out. Apparently the G3 will still be the processor in use. Why???

Well I bailed 6/16ths ago. It looked too fragile over the short term. The stock will regroup somewhere around 30.

What's the next event? MacWorld? And When?

I am seeing a *lot* of false assumptions and claims on this board. The strategy is a lot clearer now than it has been in 3 years, so it is ironic that there is now confusion.

I will do my best to help answer questions, as long as it is on publically announced roadmaps and products.

Mind you, this will be to the best of my knowledge, I am no longer an Apple employee, so take it as it is: an informed opinion.

From what I saw today at WWDC:

Java for Allegro will focus on *speed* and JDK 1.1.6 and Swing. This is only significant in that Apple will not be doing a full JDK 1.2 release until post-Allegro.

Quicktime rocks! Real-time protocol means excellent integration of Quicktime with live media. This will be a big deal for websites/publishers.

Mac OS strategy. Finally, it makes sense:
Rhapsody *is* Mac OS X. The difference is that Mac OS X will basically support the Mac APIs. No more worries about "Netscape for Rhapsody" or "Office for Rhapsody". There will be an Office and Netscape because there *already is one*.

Pre-emptive MT *free*. Protected Memory *free*. Dynamic Resources *free*. They didn't say it, but I think it is fair to assume that SMP will also come down the road, free.

This is what we really wanted, it's what developers wanted, and it will be what gets delivered.

Try not to get overloaded with the codenames. Apple finally has a software roadmap which makes sense to developers.

Timetable announced:
Q3 1998 - Allegro (Mac OS 8.5)
Q3 1998 - Rhapsody 1.0
Q1 1999 - Mac OS 8.6
Q1 1999 - Mac OS X beta
Q3 1999 - Mac OS X 1.0
Q3 1999 - Sonata (Mac OS ?)

If you are wondering what the difference is between Sonata and Mac OS X (since they are delivered the same time), I would expect that Sonata will be much more lightweight, and support more machines than the full Mac OS X.

However, there doesn't seem to be a true dual-OS strategy. The Mac OS will live on, grafted onto the new Rhapsody foundation.

Congrats to all, as investors and end users and developers.
