Interesting.

Can't imagine why Diamond would want to get involved with motherboards in the midst of an industry consolidation. With control over fundamentals like chipsets and bus design, Intel has become something of an unstoppable force in this arena. Diamond could be positioning itself to supply white-box makers. Can't imagine margins would be all that impressive.

In killing Orchid, Diamond has eliminated a marginal competitor on the ropes. Creative Labs has always been the real threat. Can't imagine why the Orchid brand name would or should survive the transition.

Really isn't much of a diversification, if that was the intent.
