John: Some thoughts re "Life After y2k"

I agree that the Street is worried about post 2000. CNBC keeps saying there will be nothing for these companies to do after 2000. According to y2k experts, however, y2k work will go on until 2003 or 4 or 5. (None of these experts work for CNBC.) The knowledgeable folks are all talking triage. The work will not be completed so triage is the game that must be played according to folks like Yardeni, Yourdon and Koka.

Triage n. 1. A system designed to produce the greatest benefit from limited treatment facilities for battlefield casualties by giving treatment to those who may survive with proper treatment and not to those who have no chance of survival and those who willl survive without it. 2. Any similar system used to allocate a scarce commodity, such as food, only to those capable of deriving the greatest benefit from it.

It's clear to me we won't be finished for a long time after 1-1-2000.

More importantly, however, is that SEEC's markets post y2k work are huge and they are preparing for them big time. Euro. Data Warehousing. Legacy maintenance. Testing. And now, web enablement of legacy systems (see press release.) They are confident they will be a strong global player in all these markets. I share their confidence.

John - Did you notice cash SPNSF has? COGIF, CYSF, and SPNSF (CMND?), IMRS - all have lots of cash. Companies with cash make feel comfortable.

A key message Ravi (SEEC) has been giving consistently is - testing. Testing of the remediated code has also been echoed by SPNSF and CRYSF. Testing, testing, testing. Ram
