Dr. Mark Re, formerly with IBM, has been named sr. vice president of research and development, responsible for all R&D operations. Dr. Aric Menon, previously with Seagate Technology, Inc., has been named vice president and chief technical officer, reporting to Dr. Re. Dr. Re joins Read-Rite from IBM's Storage Systems Division in San Jose, where he held various senior managerial positions, most recently director of recording head development engineering. At IBM, he managed magnetoresistive (MR) and giant magnetoresistive (GMR) recording head development. Dr. Re has over 35 articles published in scientific and engineering publications, and has more than 10 patents to his credit involving magnetic recording technologies. He holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Dr. Menon spent 11 years at Seagate, his most recent position being vice president and chief technical officer of Seagate's Recording Head Group, where he was responsible for recording head research and development. He has published more than 30 papers on tribology and the mechanics of magnetic storage systems, and is affiliated with several universities and industry associations. He holds a Ph. D. degree in Engineering from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, and an M.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Tennessee, in Knoxville, Tennessee.
