Wouldn't MRVC's NBase unit be a much better match from a product portfolio aspect? That would put ASND into the end user, access provider and core swtiching businesses.

JRH, could be. It would help pick up ATM market share, as FORE is not an insignificant player. And their product lines includes fairly extensive Ethernet switching gear which has no overlap with ASND. I'm not sure how successful his line is though. Or whether ASND would want to play in this lower margin arena.

Also, FORE's price tag would likely be on the order of $2.5 to $3 billion. So ASND holders would be looking at major share dilution in what would have to be an all stock deal.

I fear an acquisition like this would be ASND's only sure path back into the 20's.
