Off topic: I can beat you on that one. We moved to VA in the late 70's. One night I happened to go do the shopping. There was a woman in front of me at the checkout and the kid behind the counter had to make change for her. This was prior to the picture on the machine key era. Not only could he not do it, neither could the woman from the other register that came over to help. I had to do the arithmetic for them both. No wonder they've rewritten the SAT's downward twice since the 60's. It's gotten way scary out there.

(o.t.) As long as there isn't much else to talk about...have you noticed people trying to figure out how to get the proper amount of change out of the drawer of a cash register? Many pull coins from both sides working to the middle...I often receive several dimes and/or nickels in lieu of a quarter or a dime. Few know how to count the change back when "dumping it" in your hand. Oddly enough I have corrected people who have given me back too much change then the other way around...it's scary.

f,

**ot** - I have been doing a little math tutoring of late, and the students that I have been teaching were used to being allowed to use a calculator in school. Well, in the 'school according to Ken', there are no 'calculators' allowed without a 'High School' Diploma, until many problems are worked out 'longhand' first.

Both students math scores increased considerably!

Regards,

Ken
