More transistors added does not mean more power being dissipated! In a CPU, only the core runs at the speed limit, and the added features do not have to run at the same time as other peripherals! For example, the 3.3V logic section only runs up to the bus speed of 66 to 133MHz maximum. Higher density thus does not mean more power dissipation! You can relax for Time Traveler because none of Time Traveler's bosses read SI. Thanks for your concern though. Guess what? Time Traveler personally does not care if Time Traveler's bosses read SI anyway.

Regarding the 16:9 aspect, present day analog TVs are going to be obsolete in less than 10 years. DTV with digital technology and aspect ratio of 16:9 are going to replace all analog TVs today. It makes a lot of sense to Time Traveler to obtain a monitor conformed to 16:9 aspect ratio, not just for DVD.

Finally, yes, I do mean the resistance of the channel.
