Hi Mr. Yocam!

----

Re: Yes, more are coming

Very Good! Like to see these big name companies coming in with Borland/Inprise solutions in the enterprise. Over time the naysayers who say Inprise does not have a chance in hell of succeeding may eventually quiet down. (may...)

----

Re: Why don't you start an INPRISE: Time to BUY! talk

I'm waiting till after June 5, 1998! Until then company is still oficially Borland International!

Besides, though extremely unlikely, the shareholder resolution to change the name may not pass. That would make any new Inprise thread a very fast white elephant!

BTW you are right. There is an Inprise thread:
exchange2000.com

Also I could just ask Jill to change the title of this thread to "Inprise: Time to Buy!" - that way everything is in one place

though come to think about it

it might connote the wrong symbolism - mere name change!! :-)

So maybe Rod's thread is the right place.

----

I was looking at Programmer's Paradise little catalog today. Something struck me about the difference in costs between MSFT enterprise versions and Inprise versions - Inprise is higher, however:

In these competitive environments Inprise has one really good thing that it did in the past and that it will hopefully do in the future - time to market.

One could argue that relative to this advantage and the accompanying reduction in developer time, taking everything together (licenses + development + deployment (hopefully?)) Inprise's tools have the highest Return On Investment (ROI).

This takes your On Time On Budget message one step further and since ROI is a financial metric that every CFO loves, phrasing things in these terms may sound like music to their ears?

Why not get someone to study the cost effectiveness of Inprise's tools over the competition?

If it is true that Inprise does increase productivity as much as I think it does then most companies would be convinced by a ROI study and more importantly you will not have to compete in any sort of price war with MSFT or anybody - very good for sustainable healthy margins!

----

Shane. (I guess we are out of luck re: the Inprise cookies???)

You said:Why don't you start an INPRISE: Time to BUY! talk.

What's the point? There is an "INPRISE" thread and it hasn't had a post since May 4th.
Obviously the new name has not caught on. If you paid a consultant good money to think up this new name, it was money down the drain.

You had better come up with a better idea than that if you want to rejuvenate this company.

Microsoft to rally third-party vendors ((sic)Inprise ) around
COM plans

Will Borland beat the Visual Basic / Visual C++ 6.0 tool onslaught
or will we have to wait to catch up...

excerpt from...

Striving to convince developers that its server-side object model
is king, Microsoft at its TechEd user conference in New Orleans in June will detail how forthcoming tools upgrades from Microsoft and other vendors can be used to build Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS) components.

As part of the effort, Microsoft will reveal new licensees for its Component Object Model (COM) technology, including object request broker vendor Inprise (formally Borland), according to sources close to the company.

....

With the announcement of Version 6.0 of its Visual C++ and Visual Basic tools, plus Version 6.0 of its Visual Studio tools suite, the company is aiming to simplify the process of building server-based distributed COM objects, according to Microsoft officials.

Meanwhile, the company is enlisting support of third-party tools
vendors such as ..., INPRISE, and ... division to include
features for easily creating and deploying server-based COM objects
in their tools.

Go Borland

Now might be the time for one of those press releases which state that INPR expects to meet or beat expectations this quarter.

I think that the share buyback is a move in the right direction. If it comes in under the budget of $10m, you should consider repeating the exercise next quarter
