Yes, you can transfer the shares from your existing (full-service) broker to your internet broker. There may be a charge for doing this, but it should be less than the commission you would pay them.

Rory,

If I understand your question correctly, you simply transfer your stocks, etc from your existing broker to the internet broker of choice. There is some paperwork to be completed, but overall the process is very painless. I transitioned last summer and the brokerage house I use was very helpful (Waterhouse Securities)...I'm sure any reputable company will assist you.
