I read a posting on The Motley Fool Message Board that Adaptec was going to benefit from the Merced chip. This is the Intel code name for its new - post Pentium - chip. According to this posting Intel will start shipping these chips in the second half of 1999. A long way off in techno-time.

Is this, basically, a discontinuous inovation? New machines, new software? If so, and Adaptec stands to benefit from this, then Adaptec remains quite a good investment in the medium to long run.

Any thoughts on this from anyone in the know?
