Quite a show is in India and on this thread. Two is not always better than one.

Certainly India has a lot about which to be proud. This was true before the events of the past week, and is true after. I'm not sure that gun boat diplomacy is one of them. I'm not sure that "the world must now take India seriously because we can beat you up" is one of them.

We live in a world in which communication is slowly but surely changing the world for the better, bridging gaps and washing away ignorance. Given the breadth of history, and that our lives are but a flash on the face of the earth, this change happens slowly, and not fast enough for most desires. Certainly cultural identity is at risk as the world grows closer, and to preserve ones culture is a worthy battle.

I remember being part of a community, taking a defiant stand that I thought would change my stature in that community. It did. I found myself on the outside looking in.

That the world's largest democracy deems it necessary to force itself upon the world through nuclear threat is to me sad. Given the perceived intelligence of India, the saber rattling and chest thumping serves only to lessen my great beliefs in the nation.

There is an old saying "beware of what you ask." Nuclear weaponry and isolationism are two dangerous and lonely tools.

To what exactly does India aspire? To what purpose are these tools applied? Where does India wish to be as a result of these efforts and how will she use her new found influence?

My best wishes these events served a good purpose.
