Why should I buy Win98?

It doesn't seem any more exciting than Mac OS 8.0 vs. 7.6. I'm still using 7.5.5 Most people at my office use Windows 3.1 (or Unix).

I don't see our IS dept itching to get its hands on it. Just looks like an incremental improvement to me. If MSFT makes 110 I will buy puts. "

Buck replies:

There are good reasons, and they have been discussed here already, but most important remember that all the OEMS are gonna give out free copies.. They pay for those free copies, they pay MSFT. Almost all the computers sold this month and next, double the licence fees to MSFT....

Its really not an incremental release, the online update feature is very nice for IS depts... if the PCs are on the internet it will be fast and easy for end users to update themselves... clean and easy.

I will upgrade (and so will many companies in Europe) because of the Euro symbol (the Euro starts Jan 1, 1999). In win98 (I have the consumer preview) the Euro symbol is included. I can use it in word, excel and powerpoint. Because I'm in Brussels Belgium and do finance/tax work, this is important. It is just another small upgrade that for some is necessary. I'm sure there will be ways to get the euro symbol on Win95, but I could only get it to work on word97, not Powerpoint97.

Tippet Re:" Why should I buy Win98?"

One of the problems, as I see it, is that Microsoft probably rushed the release for the sake of some court timing advantage. If this is true, what bugs are being included because of the rush to market?
