Thanks, Stitch, for your comments on Bigfoot, although I can't say that I liked hearing them. If they don't find a way to reliably increase the speeds, it puts a lid on Bigfoot's life span, and the life of the 5 1/4" form factor. Which means that QNTM better be dreaming up some new products for next year now that will differentiate them from the other vendors. Unless 4500 RPM will be good enough for most uses for awhile, and the cost difference will make up for its speed differential. Does anyone have a clue who makes the disks in these drives? Does MKE make their own? Just curious. If the volume goes down, the cost has to go up, which kills their entire raison d'etre.

Stitch,
<<Perhaps through these threads we can cipher where the strengths and weaknesses are. >>

How, would you recommend, I go about attempting to quantify which DD maker is presently delivering the highest quality, most durable drives at competitive prices.
Error rate, expected hours of life, what?
