It might not be much of a tumble. HP has gotten recent press for really aggressively pursuing a number of high tech ventures. They appear to be up to speed on internet security, high speed networking and fibre channel. I haven't read the analyst opinions, but it would not surprise me if the recent buy recommendations are a result of considering potential growth in these areas.

All in my opinion.

Surprise, surprise, HWP misses their earnings... again. The only difference this time is the big runup in stock price... probably looking at a big drop tomorrow taking the rest of the techs with 'em. I think the analysts that upgraded this stock just days ago are looking pretty silly.

Hold on for the big ride tomorrow.

Frank,

My guesstimate is that the market will overreact tomorrow into Friday, and cooler heads will prevail by Monday, at which time the stock will slowly recover. The earnings miss is about 16%, so reducing the price by 16% would give a rough "fair reaction" of about 68 or 69. If the market overreacts, then we're looking at 65 or below. I think that Friday will be the low point because institutional buy/sell programming might not give a sell signal until after a certain low price is reached, say late Thursday or early Friday, at which time the price drops further. Then institutional programming reacts to the new (lower) price and by Monday, we start to see a small upturn. Whatcha think?

I am short HWP and I want to thank God I didn't cover today. I have been on this thread negative on HWP for awhile. Congrads to the longs that took some off the table after a great run. The real IDIOTS once AGAIN are all the analysts that have been upgrading this stock all the way up the ladder during the recent run, as recently as yesterday. I cannot wait for their bullsh$t explanations tomorrow, this is a great example of how ANALysts boost a stock to keep momentum going....did anyone notice how spread out the upgrades were? And do you think these same analysts will apologize to their clients? Yeah right...how could they call for a price target $95 with the state of the business, it makes you wonder what the hell they were looking at....
