Dwight <<No, I disagree. HP has over 100 different product divisions, not to mention they are a world-wide corporation, very geographically diverse. Accountants (I am one) are not magicians or soothesayers. Pulling the numbers together takes time. Until you have all the numbers, you can only guess how they will come out.>>

Dwight, I disagree. I too, am an accountant (before becoming a trader). These companies put together MONTHLY financials . After the first 2 months of the Q, and during the third month, it MUST have become apparent that they would be short of the budget. I repeat. they MUST have known they would be missing the Q by a significant amount. Maybe not the full extent, but they knew (IMHO).

HP's stock has been on the run. Someone at HP wanted to enjoy the party for as long as possible by delaying the bad news. Even if if drops 10 points after bad news released, it is still up 10 from its recent low at 60. Smart, Smart, very Smart! I could not figure out other reasons except for this one.
