Dell in service business...

I forgot, DELL fears nothing,
IS DELL Immune?

From what? I was just pointing out that Dell's Build To Order model has a great deal going for it, even if it (might) mean paying a bit more upfront for components.

IBM says they will get to double digit revenue growth based on the service business in 2001,
Will DELL be competing in the service business in 2001?

Not from what I read. However, be aware that when IBM talk about service business they may be meaning systems integration and related services. I dont believe that just fixing broken hardware is a high revenue, and in particular a high margin, business. And getting into double digit growth is not exactly something to be proud of, compared to Dell :-)

Its all a question of what you spend your money on. If Dell can make 22% or whatever margin on selling computers, why should they go into service, if that is (say) 10% margin. Given an investment $ to spend, where would you put it?

Obviously Dell is not immune to lots of things, and one day their rise will stop, and certainly the share price absolutely cannot keep growing at this crazy price. However, their business model, IMHO, gives them more protection than most. Thats why I sold CPQ to buy Dell a month or so ago. I only wish it was a year ago.
