In house counsel is not amused, though.

Why not?

Oh, and here is a fairly meaty article from MSNBC:

msnbc.com

Not that I think Microsoft will ever agree to it in a million years, but one interesting link to an audio clip says:

John Haven Chapman, a former trial attorney at the Justice Department, said the break-up of Microsoft may have been one of the options under consideration in the settlement talks.

Again, I think Microsoft would never agree to a breakup in a million years, so I'm not getting too excited over this little rumor. But, you never know.

Joel Klein Profile in WSJ today.

Sorry, no URL, as I don't subscribe, I read it in print at the ice cream shop. Front page story, entertaining and informative. My biased summary: He da man. Not only is he taking on Bill, he's going after John Malone, on some deal with Rupert Murdoch to get a new satellite slot for Primestar. There was some quote from him about cable TV being one of the most powerful monopolies. (It's long been my least favorite one, really and truly). Going after the latest RBOC merger too, though he was originally judged a wimp for letting Southern Bell/Nynex? go through. Supposedly likes to litigate, not settle, litigation sets a precedent. We'll see about that one.

Not only that, for all you conspiracy theorists / Limbaugh fans, he was Vince Forster's replacement as White House attorney. Maybe he killed Vince Foster. HaHa. Fell out with Hillary when he aligned himself with David Gergen in favor of releasing all Whitewater documents. Now supposedly doesn't communicate with the White House, as is traditional for antitrust heads. The usual opposition opinion from Charles "Rick" Rule, named exactly like that. Has my influence as leader of the nefarious international ilk conspiracy reached even into the pages of Bill's onetime most loyal allies? Bwahahahahaha!!!! (that last sentence is a joke, I assure you).

Cheers, Dan.
