JDN, >>>" Isnt INTC the one with the lowest cost to manufacture?
Isnt INTC the one with the best brand recognition? Isnt INTC BY FAR the
strongest financially and able to ride out the storm?"<<<

Add highest yields, and reliability, both, by far. Maybe these are not considered that important by home users, but they are to me. At the medium to high end (workstations and servers), no vendors should even consider, or evaluate one chip from any of Intel's competitors, even if they had any competitors, for the yield (availability) and reliability ('nuf said) reasons. Reminds me of a favorite expression: If we had some bacon, we could have bacon and eggs, if we had some eggs.
