I think I read somewhere that the FCC mandated that these two competitors use compatible technology. Is that true? I would hate to see a big retail fight between them like we've seen with VHS/Beta and MiniDisc/DCC. In the later case, it seriously hurt the whole market segment, and now small, recordable, digital audio is much more expensive than it would be if the competitors had agreed on a single standard and competed on products.
