here's the detail from Lehman Bros. are the results as they are because they're dealingwith advanced HIV patients?

Ligand (LGND, 14 1/4, 1-Buy)
Ligand had 4 abstracts accepted by ASCO. The first is preclinical data
showing that receptor selective retinoids can inhibit tumor cell lines. The
second and third are phase I/II dose ranging trials using oral LGD1550 (May
18- 1:00PM-5:00PM Poster session) in patients with advanced cancer to evaluate
pharmacokinetics, safety, clinical tolerance and attempt to determine the
maximally tolerated dose. The fourth abstract is a phase II trial using oral
LGD1057 in AIDS related Kaposi sarcoma. An interim analysis of 66 patients
was completed. 38 patients received at least 16 weeks of drug and were
included in the analysis. Partial responses were seen in 14 patients (37%),
stable disease in 15 (39%) and progressive disease in 4 (11%). 11 patients
withdrew from the study due to adverse events, which included grade 3 or 4
elevations of triglycerides (5 pts.), headaches (8 pts.) and skin problems.
Cholesterol and triglyceride levels rose significantly from a mean baseline
cholesterol level of 187 to 277 and a mean baseline triglyceride level from
240 to 788.

Michael Murphy has a very positive revue of the SRGN / Ontak acquisition in his newsletter that was mailed today. His calls it a bargain for many of the same reasons that have been discussed on this thread. I wouldn't be surprised if he's lurking<g>.

Henry, we have discussed the exclude button and a somewhat related solution proposed by me to provide a preview to the next few posts at some length in the Welcome to Silicon Investor thread Subject 16294 and we even created the new thread SI Message Filtering - Pros and Cons Subject 19253 to focus on this discussion. The discussion did not yet come to a final resolution and Brad Dryer Silicon Investors programmer is pretty reluctant to pursue the proposed ideas. But the Ligand thread could really profit from those options.

SI provides another option so called private threads where only invited participants can post. Maybe we should create such a thread for Ligand.

Andreas

Henry,
An Exclude button, eh? Very thought provoking. But could it really work? It seems to me that the problem with that approach, at least for those of us who love Ligand and who love The Truth, is that how then would we be able to constantly monitor the Excluded poster's messages to ensure that they did not contain some grain of potentially harmful "misinformation"? How could we sleep at night, or rest for a moment, knowing that such "misinformation" might go unchallenged and unrebutted anywhere in cyberspace? Can those of us who are privileged to know The Truth stand idly by while innocents are exposed to this "misinformation"? Could Ken Starr Exclude the testimony of Monica Lewinsky's mother? No, I think not. No, the price we pay for Truth, Justice and the Ligand Way is eternal, all-consuming, obsessive compulsive, let nothing stand in our way vigilance to every word uttered anywhere, at any time, by any person about Ligand. It may make for heavy going on the thread sometimes, but isn't it really absolutely vital and absolutely necessary that vigilance be maintained? I think so, don't you?
Best,
John
