Microsoft Monopoly
RE:" ... we should indeed force Microsoft to obey. "

Yes! You are finally getting it!:
A higher force than Microsoft needs to step into the market place to restore free enterprise, truth, justice, and the American way.

That is exactly what must be done in a free society in the case of abuse of monopoly power.

Relax:
The gears are already in motion. Its only a mater of working out the details. Public policy on the abuse of monopolistic power is well established in this country and in Western Europe.

PS: As to being communistic: This sort of thing is socially oriented, but it is not necessarily best described as "communism". I like to think that democracy is also socially oriented and rightly empowered to use what minimal is force necessary to secure the blessings of liberty. Does that mean that we live in a commune? No, I like to think of what we live in as a community. HR

We all know that Microsoft ushered in the information age, as those NASDAQ ads are so fond of pointing out. However, even with all the benefits they have brought, their influence and power cannot go unchecked. I'm not saying Microsoft is right or wrong in the recent developments. I'm just saying that a society which values competition and level playing fields must never become complacent about the status quo.
