A lot of threads get like that. The trick is how to turn that around, so the threads become constructive again; not to just ignore it. I haven't looked at that one, but if you're saying it has gotten turned around, then that's good and that's what I mean. Whatever the reason was for the turnaround, these things can be turned around.

Hi John,

I quickly zipped through 2800 to 2900, you're right, lots of off-topic about golf and Frank Sinatra. I didn't see any serious bashing, but from the bad vibes, that might have been earlier.

If I were involved, I would first reply to each of the off-topic posters privately, asking them to take it elsewhere. If that doesn't work then it might be appropriate to get SI management involved.

P.S. - For my definition of serious bashing, see the CCSI thread. I am interested in following that stock, but the thread is nearly useless because both the longs and the shorts are foul-mouthed, bad tempered bashers. Every now and then someone sane comes along and some useful information is exchanged. Someone tried to start an alternate thread which worked for a while, but it was later invaded by the waring parties. As much as I dislike what's going on there, I don't want to change the nature of the good threads.
