SOUTH HACKENSACK, N.J., May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Visual Telephone International (OTC Bulletin Board: VTPI) was the first to demonstrate a fully integrated, self-contained, desktop video conference unit, with H.320 standards compliance, direct ISDN connectivity, a simple operating system with Visual-EZ(R), seamless white boarding collaboration and still the only company to offer double resolution, in-band, still store forward graphics. Further, Visual has what it believes to be products under development that a maturing market desires, while beginning to experiment with bolder new advancements that will further the growth of technology.

Visual is pleased to announce two new products that have been in development for quite some time. These new products will continue to maintain VTPI at the innovative forefront, at a time that it appears the industry may just be starting to realize the potential that has been predicted.

The first product enables VTPI to substantially reduce the cost of buying a Desktop Visual Telephone ("DVT"). Priced in the range of $3,500 to $4,000, this new unit, called the "Visual 100", is based on the Lucent AVP-III PCI compliant chip set. The system will provide a true 30 frames per second sample forward frame rate in lieu of the frame rate doubling with supplemental motion compensation used in current models. The operating system software has been developed to take advantage of some of the features of the Windows 98 operating system by Microsoft, released today. Since the Company has been developing this product using Beta versions of Windows 98, the Visual development may now be finalized for product shipping in the June/July time frame. Orders are now being taken.

VTPI also announced simultaneous Internet access and video conferencing utilizing only one ISDN line. This technology is the result of an alliance with Alpha Telecom, Inc., Huntsville, Alabama. The new Visual Internet Access (VIA) product will allow use of the Voice/Switched Data ISDN line for Internet access. Since video conference systems require only Voice/Switched Data ISDN line configuration, it precludes use of the telecommunications resource for high speed Internet access by ISDN digital modems. Internet access speed with the VIA shall be capable of up to 128 Kb when not in a video conference and 64KB in a video conference. This product shall be available initially as an option on the Visual 1100 and Visual 100 model series.

The combination of products announced directly targets the SOHO (Small Office Home Office) market. Visual Telephone International is firmly committed to direct ISDN connectivity. That's where the majority of standards based video conference resources reside. Carl Ceragno, CEO commented "We have been developing our new products to take advantage of the PCI bus and Windows 98 technology. As far as the Internet, we are looking at it carefully, but until there is the ability to provide a guaranteed propagation delay, latency and bandwidth over the Internet, all high end corporate and distant learning users will remain on the public switched network. The development of our Visual 100 and VIA products punctuates our belief in the technology and growth potential of the SOHO concept."

The Company's products include the Visual-1000, Visual-1100 and Visual-2000 series of products, all include the simple to use, Visual-EZ(R) operating system, the most simplified video conference operating system with seamless collaborative capability. The Visual Telephone international Visual-1000 and 1100 series of fully integrated, PC based video conference systems feature H.320 standards compliance with direct ISDN connectivity to the public switched network. Visual Telephone International provides its Visual-2000 series, based around the same platform to provide simultaneous dual display of full frame video presence and graphics in a portable package, modularly configurable and scaleable with up to dual 39" display.
