<< The PTO has informed Ligand that the overlapping claims are patentable to Ligand and initiated an interference proceeding to determine whether Ligand or Roche is entitled to a patent by having been first to invent the common subject matter. >>

This sure sounds like it is favorable towards LGND, so far. Perhaps, that is why they are full speed ahead. Buts..... On the other hand, they are trying to find out who is entitled to the overlapping patent. How can it be patentable to Ligand, if the PTO is looking into who it is patentable to? I wish the article was written in plain English! <g>

More importantly, they are going to be discussing physician assisted suicide, at the cancer conference this weekend. If the idea passes, and if it doesn't have to be voluntary, I've got four names to suggest to be the first candidates! <g>

Regards, Bob

Bulletin that could be coming from the ASCO meeting:

==================================================================>

Sunday, May 17, 1998; 5pm EST --- ASCO takes vote on assisted suicide.

After a bitter debate, lasting since Friday night, members were finally able to take a vote on Physician Assisted Suicide (PASS). At first, 90% of the doctors were against it. One was quoted as saying, "Well, we do make more money if we keep them alive!"

About two hours before the debate was to end, and a vote taken, the members started reading thru the LGND thread on SI. They came across four members, who apparently had terminal cases of PMS. After reading thru their notes, especially the grumpiest, who had been in a PMS related bad mood for months, they all changed their minds.

Members voted unanimously for Physician Assisted Suicide (PASS). They added a clause to make terminal PMS a mandatory PASS, and are now on their way to SI headquarters to help the four members, with terminal PMS, out of the LGND thread's misery!

One doctor, when questioned about putting people out of their misery said, "It was more than I could take. The suffering was awful!"

When questioned about the patient that he was referring to, the doctor exclaimed, "What patient!? I am talking about the suffering by the unfortunate members of the LGND thread, who had to put up with the four posters with this PMS disease!"
=================================================================>

Of course, the above is only a satire, and an attempt at humor, strictly from my imagination.

Just trying to bring a little levity, to this thread.

GO LGND!!!
