Dwight -

I keep mentioning Tim Berners-Lee, but nobody seems to want to give him any credit. Perhaps that's because it takes a little glory from the Netscape whiz kids.

I'll send Tim my $5, as I hear that's all he really wants. That, and the knowledge that he contributed something that changed the world forever.

Anyway I'll always have a geek-award for Bill Gates, because he da man that delivered everything, and continues to do so.

Isn't that the guy that learned everything he knows about software from studying code that he found in dumpsters?

"If MacIntosh had had their way, we might be all still looking at 9" black and white screen computers that we paid $2,000 for. Oh yeah I forgot, they had to make tiny black and white screens so the units would be "affordable". "

Where do we start?

When Macintosh offered a bit-mapped display, Microsoft couldn't get a command line interface right. As to the comment about 9" black and white screens, $2000 and all that... At the time the Lisa and Macintosh came to market the PC clone market had not developed as we know it today and an IBM PC was actually more expensive. High resolution color as we know it today didn't even exist in the PC market.

I guess you haven't looked at the Macintosh lately, and its clear from your comments you've never used one either. Although I am not a great Apple fan, Windows 95 still hasn't delivered an interface as consistent and logical as Apple. Nor are the MS applications all that good either.

But, who am I to argue with someone who believes that Bill Gates is "da man that delivered everything".

Happy Trails

Thure

Dwight,

Expensive yes, but never lagging on the technical features, so this does not ring true as to what would have been. When the Mac was introduced color monitors/cards were really expensive. My first EGA monitor 5 years later was $700 and was a "good deal". Even today very few people I know buy a 21" monitor because of the cost.

Cheers,
