Ken is correct in regards to the lien.
I bought a new house 15 months ago, and to my shock, a subcontractor sent me a letter a few months later notifying me that they placed a lien on my property. The contractor then send me a letter explaining that this was to protect the subcontractor from a default on payments from the contractor. The only thing unusual was that they notified the homeowners in addition to the contractor.
