Sorry, but I do not know whether this done in the NSCP browser. In any case, if this feature is not already in the browser, it will shortly, as it seems to be a feature that is greatly desired, and thus someone from the open source community will probably implement it.

Somewhat. NYT uses cookies, but AFAIK, SI uses .htaccess and .htpasswd, which NAV *does* cache, within a single browser session (quite a long time, in my case, YMMV). NAV also caches cookies, unless (like me) you remove them by hand every time they're set.
