I think the correct analysis is that Cisco has been restored to the siebel website, but it's still not fully restored. Go to the siebel home page search for cisco and you'll still get no references to the locations on the site.

Your analysis comparing siebel to oracle versus sybase is inaccurate. Databases, like operating systems, are enabling technology. Dominance begets more dominance. Enterprise application companies don't end up with complete domination of a market the way enablers do. This race isn't over. Vantive may be less glamorous than Siebel, but i wouldn't count Vantive or Clarify (or Onyx) out of the race. this segment is more analogous to the erp business. Just as Baan, SAP, Oracle, Symix, PSFT, JD Edwards and many others have been successful, there's room for many players.
