<FC: AT&T & Yahoo Voice Offerings? A Mixed Bag of Tricks. > Charles, Yes, I thought so too. Here's a clipping from today's AT&T-Yahoo release. See if you get the same message I do in this snip. Tell me. Where are they taking this? Frank C. ------------------- "By making a wide array of AT&T's communications services available from the most heavily trafficked site on the Internet, we are also taking full advantage of the Web's power as a medium for marketing, distribution and customer service," said Dan Schulman, president of AT&T WorldNet Service. "Our trial of a new Internet-based service will essentially voice-enable Yahoo! Chat, bringing a new dimension in communications to the wealth of resources already there." Yahoo! users will be able to purchase an array of AT&T's popular long distance services, including domestic, international and toll-free services; AT &T Calling Cards, AT&T Prepaid Cards and AT&T Wireless Services. In addition, Yahoo!'s registered members will be able to sign up for AT&T's One Rate(R) Online service, featuring a $.09 a minute long-distance rate on direct-dial, state-to-state phone calls. The voice-enabled chat trial that the companies plan to initiate will enable a chat room participant to turn a traditional keyboard-based session into a voice conversation with the other participants while preserving the confidentiality inherent in the chat experience. This application combines Web technology with AT&T telecommunications service to establish a voice link between the two participants without revealing any participant's phone number to the others.
