TTI will soon be launching a catalog business. Stay tuned...

Still no major improvement in the overall business environment has been detected, with the industry now heading into the normally slower summer months. "Business is still sluggish," said Arrow President Stephen Kaufman, although "unit volume is still pretty good."

Many distributors questioned at last week's Electronic Distribution Show in Las Vegas expect at least a few more sluggish months. "The summer won't be strong," said Burt Katz, president of Avnet's Time Electronics. "My hope is for the fourth quarter." Looking at Time's year so far, Mr. Katz said "Through March, we had record incoming orders, then April tapered off. May has been a little better but is still weaker than the first quarter. There continues to be price and margin pressure, although there still is a fair amount of demand."

Everyone is looking for the next super end-product to drive component sales. "The hottest topic," according to Jaco VP of strategic marketing Ben Schwartz, is "where is the next great machine to eat up all the excess inventory, and stabilize pricing?"
