Okay, so that VectorVest site was pretty poor. Can you believe it was the most intelligent thing I could think of to post? Here's something better. A story that says the semiconductor market has hit bottom. The semi index has hit an 18 month low and they think that it won't go any lower. Can you believe the book-to-bill for the index for April was 0.79. It's a quick story for those of you who want to check it out.

Any engineers or designers lurking about? I need some help on this one. A new competitor called GateField has entered the market. They have gotten Siemens to mass produce cheaper FPGAs. They have a new designed that isn't based on the SRAM that ALTR and XLNX use.

GateField's 0.25-micron ProASIC devices are slated for fourth-quarter production. The projected 1999 price for a ProASIC device comparable to Altera's 0.25-micron 10K130E or Xilinx's 0.25-micron 40125XV is $35 in 10,000s.
