(PR NEWSWIRE) DJ: CS Wireless Launches Commercial Digital Wireless Cable S DJ: CS Wireless Launches Commercial Digital Wireless Cable Service in Dallas With General Instrument's DWT-1000 Digital Consumer Set Tops and System HORSHAM, Pa., May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- General Instrument Corporation (NYSE: GIC) announced today that CS Wireless Systems Inc. has begun to commercially deploy digital interactive MMDS service using GI's DWT-1000 Digital Wireless Terminals. These deployments will serve CS Wireless customers in Dallas and Ft. Worth, Texas, covering an estimated 1.5 million line-of-sight homes. This commercial deployment is part of CSW's commitment to purchase 200,000 DWTs over the next three years from GI. General Instrument has supplied CS Wireless with a complete end-to-end digital wireless system. The system will utilize digital content provided by TelQuest and other DigiCipher II based satellite content, as well as MPEG-2 encoders to compress local off-air television signals. Key features include MPEG-2 digital video and Dolby Digital AC-3 audio, expanded channel capacity, local conditional access control and interactive capability including, Impulse Pay-Per-View (IPPV). With digital compression CSW will increase its channel offering to 80 video and 30 music channels and include an electronic programming guide. The DWT-1000 employs state-of-the-art digital compression technology to provide a variety of services to subscribers. Digital compression technology increases channel capacity while improving picture quality and enhancing access control. With it's ability to download software and third party applications, the DWT is firmware upgradeable and is designed to offer operators revenue-generating opportunities far into the future.
