Fred, I would doubt that most firms would work an order, atleast not for the discounted commissions. There are few that do that. I assume they were 1) either making a market in the stock or 2) route the order to a firm that does make the market. Default in industry is that order mus tbe displayed within 30 seconds, as per manning rules. Also, Fred, I believe you were the one who asked about options a while back? did you ever get a thread started? I 'd love to read it, can you drop a url up here? My main problem with options is they are usually too complex to discuss up here and ther are certain disclosures I would have to meet as a liscensed professional. ...waiting for Craig to tell us how it resolved itself...
