High-speed voice and data transmission products maker ADC Telecommunications (Nasdaq:ADCT -news) rose $1 7/8 to $31 3/16 after reporting Q2 EPS of $0.25 versus $0.22 a year ago, which was in
line with the Street's mean estimate. Sales jumped 20% in the quarter compared to a year ago, to $335 million. Meanwhile, operating income also increased 20% from last year to $52 million, mostly due to
higher sales volumes and improved gross margins. Merrill Lynch raised its short-term rating on the stock to "buy" from "accumulate."
