As a urologist I am diligent in going over the medicine list from a patient and warning them about not taking viagra in conjunction with any nitro type of drug. The PFE reps do a good job of emphasizing this point during detailing. However, I believe the danger is when a patient develops chest pain and is taken to the Emergency Room. The patient is already confused at this point. IF they do not tell the ER physician that they have recently taken viagra for whatever reason and are subsequently given nitroglycerin then problems may arise. I think this is the greatest danger. Not a physician improperly prescribing it but rather an ER doc or EMT giving nitro without being aware that viagra is on board. Obviously PFE does not want to see that happen.
