Time Warner Sets Austin 'Pegasus' Test
Austin, Texas -- Time Warner Cable will test out its "Pegasus" digital video platform for the first time in its Austin, Texas system, the company said.

The company will begin rolling out the service, using Scientific-Atlanta Inc.'s Explorer 2000 advanced set-tops, in the homes of about 200 employees next month, the MSO said, but had no timetable on a commercial rollout in the 240,000-subscriber system.

Time Warner will begin by selling about 60 channels of multiplexed premium services, digital audio and basic networks.

Last month, Time Warner doubled its order of the Explorer set-tops to 1.1 million units to gear up for the Pegasus rollout. The MSO, however, has delayed commercial deployment of the service -- originally scheduled for March, several times. Executives have cited the complexity of the hardware and software involved as well as security issues.
