Just listened to the CIEN conference call while washing dishes (I have wet notes!)... 1-800-753-9756

A couple interesting tidbits:
1)The Firefly's commercial production was pushed back (delayed) another qtr.
2)The Multiwave Metro (the real competitor to the GigaMux) is not expected until the end of the year now.
3)Believes that there is opportunity for metro applications today. They did not acknowledge anyone who is currently shipping for metro. Guess they didn't want to advertise for anyone or be embarrassed they don't have it ready yet.
4)Believes biggest players/competitors in DWDM are Lucent, NEC, and to some extent Alcatel, Nortel and Pirelli.
5)Feels those competitor's focus will really start to shift from long haul to short haul over the next 12 - 18 months.... I wonder if they know NEC is selling the GigaMux for short haul

It was an interesting call. I was quite impressed that they pulled out a pretty decent qtr after such a rough start as a result of WCOM.

Perhaps today's slide may have been a result of fear of a CIEN bombshell like the early release of the Multiwave Metro.
