*AV*--Just got back about a half hour ago and was going through some messages and trying to figure out what the market debacle was today.

Well, I only got a quick glance and it was nasty. I will have to do some investigation a bit later and before the open tomorrow. Just got done with a 475 drive from Utah through Wyoming. More to follow on that in the days to come.

Two quick stories for the group.

Etec Systems Inc. (ETEC) reported third-quarter earnings of 47 cents a
share, 2 cents below the consensus estimate of analysts surveyed by
Zack's Investment Research, but a penny ahead of the consensus estimate of analysts surveyed by First Call.. Separately the company said it had received a $25 million order from Align-Rite International (MASK), the single largest order in Etec's history. Etec's laser systems are used in manufacturing electronic components. Etec shares fell 3/8 to 40 1/2 ahead of the reports.

Dycom Industries Inc. (DY), a fiber-optic and telephone engineering and electrical services provider, recorded a third-quarter profit of 36 cents a share, 3 cent ahead of the consensus estimate. Last year, the company posted a third-quarter profit of 28 cents a share. Shares dropped 1 to 29 1/2 by the close. See press release.

I see it all now. You get penalized for positive earnings surprises these days. I am glad I have those DY covered CALLs since I can't afford anymore GOOD news<GGG>.
