Christine: Selfishness and rational self-interests are both moral goods. John and I have always pointed that out, so what are you referring to in you defense of self-interest? I most certainly agree. But it breaks down if self-interest is not applied objectively or conflicts with reality. As for the Neanderthals, a recent article in Discover magazine alludes to this through research from the specialized field of archeological anthropology. It also mentions that some evidence exists that Neanderthal may have bred with Cro-Magnan Man. If such is the case, we may have the clue needed to determine the origin of altruists! FT
