Marc, one clarification... I know - I promised no more posts for at least a week...kind of a self-imposed exile to let this situation digest a bit...but I want to clarify something based on a point you brought up so you don't make bad assumptions because of me... > Jim, there's some disinformation going on somewhere here if Apple > says that it is discontinuing 1100 resellers that only average $9000 > in sales a year and we've got posters and people being quoted in > news articles who say they are selling $500,000, $2,000,000, etc. > Where's the truth? Marc, I am *not* an authorized reseller. As such, I will not get a de-authorization letter from Apple. Don't inadvertantly misconstrue what I said. I have no idea of the average sales of AUTHORIZED VARs that Apple sent de-authorization letters to this past week. Believe me - I am positive we could have never achieved the sales volume we achieved under true VAR rules & restrictions. > C-Man, hope you stick around or at least post more frequently. Btw, > if CompUSA does have an initial order of 70,000, that works out to > 500 per store. Way more than your speculation that that's just a > number that will fill the shelves. It looks to me that Comp may be > trying to get Mac cpu revenue up to 20% via the iMac. I stand corrected...but note I clearly was offering mere conjecture as to how to account for what someone else stated to be 70,000 unit advance order for the iMac by CompUSA since I had no clue how many stores CompUSA had. Have *you* ever seen this figure, or believe it to be true ? Off Topic - BTW - Marc - I recall seeing you on the Global Village thread a few weeks before the big fiasco over there. Another long-time, widely-respected Apple hardware developer gone the way of the dinosaur (Yes folks, in case you haven't heard, Global Village Communications will never sell a modem to a mac owner again - go read up on it)...they narrowly escaped bankruptcy, and sold out their core business just to hold on to some equity. I recall when GVIL was rolling in dough about 5 years ago...the Mac market was white-hot, and GVC sponsored the luxurious shuttle bus runs between the two halls at Boston MacWorld Expo (was it Expo '93 or so)...oh for the glory days. They couldn't afford to sponsor a go-kart shuttle these days. ok...I'll hold my breath and my postings for a full week this time - I promise. Just felt it important to correct Marc's [mis]understanding of my earlier post.
