Like most investors I like going long rather than short. But I am realizing painfully that you have to play both sides with tech stocks. Look at CPQ, INTC,TXN,PSFT and others.

For the first time I sold naked calls on Dell last week and bought back those calls with a profit. Returns were good but not as good as going short. I am planing on repeating this technique around earnings time when there are abnormally high premiums on out of the money calls.

I also sold May 30 calls on Cymer just before earnings and collected a measly dollar while the stock has gone down almost $12 since its recent highs. I should have shorted against the box. Must have been a huge winner for those who shorted it.

Pat, actually, the best place to buy is when blood starts to recede from the knees toward the feet (VBG). However, that does not tell us when to sell.
