Christine: 1. Upon the signing of the Declaration of Independence, all men and women should have been considered free citizens of the new United States of America. Slavery should have ended. 2.For the most part homosexuals were tolerated until Hoover (the finest American fascist who ever lived) and his boys swept onto the American scene. 3. If a man and a man or a woman and a woman want to get married I support their individual right to choose for themselves. By the same token, if a woman wants 5 husbands or a man 10 wives, that should be the individual's choice, not the states'. Further, if adults who are related, such as brother-sister, etc. want to have an incestuous sexual relationship, as individuals they should have the right to do so also as much as this may enrage some people. All of this should be protected under the Constitution and Bill of Rights (and actually IS except for the way it is interpreted by federal judges with their own political power agenda). 3. It is not fallacious to compare the past to the present. Social programs have NOTHING to do with civil rights protected under the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Europe was in turmoil, peasants subjugated, the Church ran rampant UNTIL the rediscovery of Aristotle and thus emerged the Great Awakening from the Dark Ages and the beginning of the return to Rationalism, the Renaissance and the start of freedom needed to create the beginnings of Capitalism, Adam Smith's fine works and the Industrial Revolution. Unfortunately, the USA is in a mini-Dark Age now which has its roots in government power,a philosophically bankrupt educational system and, to some extent, the media. FT
