Thanks for the article, Baird. It boils down to supply/demand and lack of competition, doesn't it. Makes one wonder why the Justice Dept is so intent on bringing Microsoft down, when we can be gouged on gas prices. The answer to that lies in the article as well: the government is anti-fuel consumption due to ecological concerns. If I'm not mistaken, I think that there is a California fund which is available to those who have had to bear clean-up costs for hazardous wastes of the gasoline variety. I'd have to check into this a bit more to be certain. I just remember that there is some different treatment for gasoline based waste and other hazardous materials under the controlling statutes.
