Well as this is a democracy the people could theoretically elect politicians who would rid them of taxes. This does not seem to be a major campaign issue. In fact, most people want more services, not less. More police, better schools, more regulation of whatever their pet concern is- be it swimming pool safety, or e-coli contamination of food, or just about everything else anyone can think of and lobby for. But the people can stop it if they choose. Go forth and convince them FT. And I agree with you about FDR's programs, but I probably have completely different reasons.
