Doug: Adaptec covers the waterfront of bandwidth management. The poorer results recently are not attributed to new technology replacing SCSI but to oversupply and lower pricing in the PC market. I can only presume that Adaptec is well prepared for the transition to SCSI replacements. But is that likely to come overnight?

Your question about Adaptec's share of the market in newer technologies is important. But I have no answer. If Fibre Channel is the future, I think it will come gradually, given huge investments/legacy in SCSI by enterprises. One solution appears to be a bridge that makes the transition. And Adaptec already makes Fibre Channel adaptors. And it appears Adaptec is prepared for the movement to IEEE 1394/Firewire, too. It has already made several deals for supplying adaptors for Digital Video Broadcasting via satellite.

As I have stated previously, I believe Adaptec is in transitional mode. We all know SCSI is not forever. But Adaptec is very likely to remain dominant in SCSI as it declines, while moving to achieve market dominance in the newer technology. I very much like the current situation where in this difficult year the company is NOT hanging on to the past or the present.
