total number of shares outstanding X price per share/trailing yearly sales.

Or, you can do it the easy way and access it off a database. I use the one at E-trade, which also gives me all the historical data. Caveat: all databases contain errors, and I sometimes make math mistakes. That's one of the reasons I post here, so other people can point out my errors (small grin).

I think everyone uses trailing sales; however, given the current market mood, there are probably people calculating P/S ratios using estimates of sales in 2002. (SG).
