JCD: I'm with you. In fact, your request for more talk about the technology has had some very positive effects on thread discussion. And it sounds like you are hinting at an Adaptec FAQ. Or perhaps a thread devoted entirely to its technology. It just may attract some informed contributors. Although, like you, I would prefer to keep a good mixture of investment and technology discussion on this thread. The best way to promote such a discussion is ask the right questions.

J.C.D: That was an excellent suggestion that is also relevant to all Tech boards for Companies facing a technology transition. The basic issues are

a: What are the current technologies and remaining life spans. (Brief description of each process in Lay terms)

b: What is the market share and margin for each of the major players
in each technology.?

c: What is the replacing Technology and its ramp up time and cost implications.(Brief description of each process)

d: What is the market share and margin for each of the major players
in the replacing technologies.

Perhaps those close to the Industry will help you with the analysis.
