Yeah Bret, that's me...Mr. Trouble. My 2-Dish system w/ Locals has been solved. You basically have to have a switch with a power source...like an SW44. Once you have that, it no longer a problem.

As for the D-VHS problems, I just called and they are going to replace it. It appears that I was shipped a previously returned unit. DishDirect was very responsive and they are shipping me out a new one today and placed a call ticket on the original.

As a receiver, it works great. It also has front panel plugs so I can hook up my 8mm camcorder to record. I tend to agree with you...an all in one machine may be too much. The 5000 works so well with my standalone VCR that I'm not really sure that I will gain a whole lot with DVHS. I'm going to stick with it but as stated in prior posts, waiting on a recordable DVD may be the best bet.

Bret,

I just got my bad D-VHS replaced with one that works. It works great. Just as I expected the first one. The first one had all sorts of troubles that I can't even begin to explain.

DishDirect at www.dishonline.com replaced the bad one with absolutely no troubles. I got it hooked up, recording, no problem. Great digital video recording. Its a nice setup.

The big drawback is that the machine is loud. Its not just a little loud. Its very loud. It has a fan in the back that continuously runs. Don't even think about putting it in the master bedroom.

I'm going to enjoy it, but I would probably have been better off just waiting for the next generation.

Carter
