Jlallen, I have realized I am just not in a very good mood today. I thought I just had a bad summer cold, but now it is getting closer to the flu. So even though I think I had a valid point about fairness, I really didn't mean to sound so grumpy, okay? We almost always disagree, but certainly you are usually quite polite and your posts are thoughtful. I am usually pretty liberal, but Clinton's sleaziness really got to me over time. I think he has no integrity at all. The character issue is of great importance to me--I just think there are plenty of very probable things he has done without assuming current cocaine use. Out in California, we had plenty of politicians hooked on drugs--Congressman John Burton comes to mind immediately. But all of them of whom I am aware got treatment back in the eighties, when everyone remembered from its past history in America that cocaine really WAS a very nasty, negative, dangerous drug (after they became so addicted they could not function at all). While Mayor Marion Barry is still struggling with his addiction, apparently, I think it hit the black community harder, and maybe stayed around longer. Crack cocaine is much harder to recover from, and it was more widely used by blacks. All I was really saying is that it is so completely unfashionable for white guys in power to snort coke that I have trouble imagining Clinton doing it NOW, because he is motivated by wanting to be very cool!! Unless he is using it to dull his sexual urges or something!! This is all sheer speculation. I should take some very powerful decongestants and go to bed before I make a complete fool of myself. Unfortunately, I have been asleep so much already that I am unable to do that, so please bear with me!!
